ROLE: DESIGN ASSISTANT & PROPS BUYER
This project was shot on location in the coastal town of Todos Santos, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Due to its remote location we required to look beyond the usual to source elements for the set design and I was able to put to use my unique knowledge of Mexican production, vendors, shops and fabricators for it while communicating in Spanish.
My responsibilities included researching possibilities to use as props/deco and contacting representatives locally in the area of Todos Santos, also across the country in the main metropolitan areas such as Mexico City and Guadalajara.
This involved a research phase where I selected shops and vendors that had props in brand with the client and the set designer’s vision. A contacting phase where I reached out to them explaining the project and asking about rentals, options, availability, transportation and also looking for local advice, this included doing a pre-selection and curation of the options that I would present to the set designer. Finally in the scheduling phase I handed the information containing the best options and contacted the vendors to make sure they were on the same page.
Some of my main contributions were sourcing the action vehicle featured on the campaign and creating a bridge between the set design team and the vendors in Mexico, since in the area there are no prop houses that do rentals formally, my job involved making a connection so the team would already have an introduction prior to arrival to the location and the production would run smoothly.
